HUPPAH VERSES CHERISH



The Huppah is a like a word picture of the word “Cherish”! God’s Banner (Huppah) over us is Love! As God nourishes us with His everlasting Love, we are under His Covering, His Huppah, His Prayer Shawl (Tallit), and His Protection and Authority. (In Luke 5:33-35 where Jesus is speaking to the Pharisees about the "Children of the Bridal Chamber", the Greek word for "Bridal Chamber" is "Numphon" and the Hebrew for that is "Huppah."---"Children of the Huppah!")

In the same way it is a picture of how a husband cherishes and nourishes his wife. It represents: marriage, new house, union, oneness, covering, bride under his covering, provision, protection, his name, his defense, his authority, his responsibility. As a husband truly cherishes the woman God blesses him with, he will reap the sweetness, truth, beauty, and blessings that God has for him in the marriage relationship.

To Cherish: to love, hold dear, treat with tenderness and affection, care for, nurture, protect, respect with proper authority, encourage, value highly and exhort.



Scripturally, men are commanded to love their wives and Women commanded to honor and respect their husbands.

"Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it; That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word, That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish. So ought men to love their wives as their own bodies. He that loves his wife loves himself. For no man ever yet hated his own flesh; but nourishes and cherishes it, even as the Lord the church: For we are members of his body, of his flesh, and of his bones. For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall be joined unto his wife, and they two shall be one flesh. This is a great mystery: but I speak concerning Christ and the church. Nevertheless let every one of you in particular so love his wife even as himself; and the wife see that she reverence her husband." Ephesians 5:25-33

" Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord. And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him. Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as it is fit in the Lord. Husbands, love your wives, and be not bitter against them. " Colossians 3:16-19



"Likewise, ye wives, be in subjection to your own husbands; that, if any obey not the word, they also may without the word be won by the conversation of the wives; While they behold your chaste conversation coupled with fear. Whose adorning let it not be that outward adorning of plaiting the hair, and of wearing of gold, or of putting on of apparel; But let it be the hidden man of the heart, in that which is not corruptible, even the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of God of great price. For after this manner in the old time the holy women also, who trusted in God, adorned themselves, being in subjection unto their own husbands: Even as Sarah obeyed Abraham, calling him lord: whose daughters ye are, as long as ye do well, and are not afraid with any amazement. Likewise, ye husbands, dwell with them according to knowledge, giving honor unto the wife, as unto the weaker vessel, and as being heirs together of the grace of life; that your prayers be not hindered." 1 Peter 3:1-7



It is easier for a wife to love her husband, but hard to honor and respect him when she has been wounded. That is why it is so important for repentance and forgiveness to take place. Men have a harder time loving their wives thus the biblical command. However God desires both husband and wife to love and cherish and honor and respect each other.

To be truly loved is wonderful, but to be truly cherished is that and SO MUCH MORE!

Yeshua (Jesus) our heavenly Bridegroom truly cherishes us!!
